PLEASE SIGN-UP EARLY: A minimum of 8 people are needed to schedule this session. If less than 8 people are signed up 48 hours before the session, the session will be cancelled.
Most Saturday sessions are friendly exercises and games, which are intended to be fun for both veterans and newcomers. This year we plan to hold an “intro” session most months, during which we hope to introduce new players to the game, as well as fundamental kayak polo skills, such as ball handling, useful strokes, and rolling. If you don’t have experience with kayak polo, or with paddling a closed cockpit kayak with a spray skirt, let the host know so that we can give you some extra pointers and attention during as the session gets going.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are not already an ACA member, you’ll either need to join (which you can do at the session) or bring the $5 single-event fee (see below), which is required for our club to retain it’s status and insurance with the ACA.
If arriving later than 5:30pm, please let someone know so we can open the door… or be prepared to wave from the door and wait till someone sees you!
Club & Facility Cost: Two free trial sessions are available for newcomers; season or per-session fees are due for everyone else ($200/winter season or $20/session, but winter season playing fees reduced to $175 until 12/12/2017).
Insurance Cost: ACA Membership ($30/year) or a one-time event fee ($5) for insurance is required and due separately from club and facility fees for all participants (including free trial participants). Newcomers can pay the $5 fee upon arrival (or apply as new ACA members in advance). Regulars: please confirm that your ACA membership is up to date. For the ACA membership discount ($10), select “New York Kayak Polo” as your Paddle America Club.
ACA Waivers: every calendar year, all participants must sign a new ACA waiver (paper or online). See Insurance – Paddle Clubs of America section of ACA site, http://www.nykayakpolo.org/the-game/
What to bring: swimsuit, rash guard, towel/shower stuff.
