Our entry-level and social session. Targeted at individuals who want a more relaxed and fun set of games. It is also targeted at kayakers who are new to kayak polo. It will involve some basic drills on paddling, throwing and shooting, and allow time to practice personal skills, rescues and rolls. You should be:
Comfortable doing a wet exit and require minimal assistance to re-enter your boatComfortable or working toward being comfortable upside-down waiting for an assisted rescueWorking on your basic paddling skills and strokesCurious about kayak polo skills, strategies and rulesWilling to take instruction and learn
PLEASE SIGN-UP EARLY: A minimum of 8 people are needed to schedule this session. If less than 8 people are signed up 48 hours before the session, the session will be cancelled.
Saturday Night Sessions are a little slower paced and are intended to be fun for both veterans and less experienced players. Drills will be adapted to the turnout and skill levels of participants, and friendly scrimmage games will follow. Saturday Night Sessions can be a fun introduction to the sport for existing kayakers who would like to try or get into kayak polo. If you are not a kayaker and if you don’t have experience paddling a closed cockpit kayak with a sprayskirt–rolling or doing a wet exit–please message the session organizer or attend one of our Saturday Night INTRO Sessions first.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are not already an ACA member, you’ll either need to join (which you can do at the session) or bring the $5 single-event fee (see below), which is required for our club to retain it’s status and insurance with the ACA.
If arriving later than 5:30pm, please let someone know so we can open the door… or be prepared to wave from the door and wait till someone sees you!
